Yaarghn, Matey!

Late to posting again, but what else is new?

It was pirate week at Lia's daycare last week and, being mighty fond of pirates, I offered to dress up and make a personal pirate appearance. The first part of that was fun and easy:

The second part.... well... No response whatsoever. They stared at me blankly while I doggedly plowed through my routine, until Lia came up in the middle of it and said, "Mommy, can we go home now?" Next time, someone please remind me that there's nothing tougher than an audience of toddlers!

Friday I took her to the carnival, where she had an absurd amount of fun and rode everything twice.

Anyway, update tomorrow morning:

Kypria: #19 - Catching the Bride, #32 - Ravished (new, shown), #33 - Deathless Friendship (new, shown)

Eidos: Ctesippus, Emoige, Loeb, Simonides (new, shown), WRM Lamb (shown) ** Note on Loeb and WRM Lamb: both of these are not real colourways. The names are being assigned to non-repeatable colourways, and are reused, so the colours will have nothing to do with previously seen ones.

Little Traveller: Dunwich (new, shown), Vik (new), Siem Reap (new, shown)

Sappho I: Embroidered Throne, Shadow of Roses, Even on the Ground (new, shown)

Sappho II: Even on the Ground (new), Crocus-Twined (new, shown)

Roving, 65/35 superwash merino/silk: Transmogrification (new, shown)

Handspun for Heifer

Soap: Warm Vanilla Honey (new, shown), Lemon Honey (new, shown), Honeysuckle, Chesapeake Bay Rum, Coolio, Mardi Gras, Lavender Lunacy, Orange and Lavender Honey (new, shown)

Hey, the pirate thing works for me, even if it didn't do anything for the pre-schoolers. I am trying to figure out pirate-related music games for my end-of-summer group lesson/party. I wish I could fly you out here.

It is interesting how many of the kids say they don't like pirates. Er, no one likes REAL pirates. It's the fantasy of pirates the we love. Plus there is a strong tie-in to my piano studio and the Pirates of Penzance: We don't seem to make piracy I mean piano lesson pay!

Oh, well. How many people can pull together a great pirate outfit at a moment's notice, anyway? Victory is yours, even if the kids didn't appreciate it.

A couple of months ago, I found out about 10 minutes before we were supoosed to leave for the wrap-up event for a medieval unit my kids were doing at school that I was supposed to dress up for it and that no self-respecting woman of the time would have gone out in public without some sort of head covering. So I ended up wearing a linen dress and a cloth napkin with a really big rubberband around my head. Pictures were taken but thankfully none have surfaced yet. I let a bunch of kids try spinning on my wheel, though, and that was popular and fun.

Well at least Lia didn't come up and say Mommy be quiet. Toddlers are the toughest audience you will every have to face.
