Ambushed

By another forced holiday, very unexpected and not entirely welcome. Daycare had an emergency closing Wed and Fri last week, in addition to Thursday, of course, meaning Lia was home and I couldn't work. In addition, Rachel and Alli were out and we had house guests and 12 for dinner Friday. Don't get me wrong, it was lots of fun, but now I'm waaaay behind. The dyeing for tomorrow's update has been happening frantically today, and you don't even want to see my to-do list. However, vacations are great for knitting, witness the previous post's FOs (many thanks for all the compliments!)

The socks for Katie were finished in excellent time, and I think she really liked them. Actually, I had a hard time parting with them, but fortunately they were a little too small for me.

And the Lia sweater. I'm so so happy with it. Thanks so much for all the compliments and encouragement from so many of you over the course of that project. It's been perhaps my greatest knitting endeavour and it feels amazing to have it finished. Now I just have to hope she'll be able to fit into it next winter too and that she won't stain it with something dreadful.

Those things out of the way, I was itching to cast on for a hat in QED. I started with Amy Swenson's pattern A Better Bucket, modified a little to accommodate the graphics. It's nearly finished, but I've run into a little problem: as you can see, the gryphons (yes, that's what those are around the top) are still headless, but the hat is quite tall enough already. I REALLY don't want to frog all that and rechart smaller versions. I think I'll try having their heads bend around the corner to the top and see if that's not to dopey. Anyway, I'm loving the yarn! (Interestingly enough, the first QED project to appear is also a hat, here on Ravelry.)

A little short on photos for tomorrow's update, as most of the yarn is still wet, but there will be:

Bugga!: White-tipped Black Moth (new, shown), unnamed green bug (don't ask), Cowkiller, Longhorned Beetle (new, shown), Potter Wasp Moth (new), and Hologram Moth (new, shown)

Eidos: Phaedrus (shown), Symposium

Traveller: Greece

ETA: Oops, I forgot something! There's also some Free Range for today, in Chaunticleer and Pertelote. And the update will be a little later than usual as we'll still need to photograph all the yarn that was dyed yesterday.

Since my daughter is marrying a man with the last name of Griffin, I am anxious to see what you will do with the gryphon pattern on the hat.

I'm looking at frogging out my Griffin Xmas stocking as the Griffin is too large of the allotted space (yes, xmas is past...so it will be for a next yr xmas present).

Looking forward to more beautiful yarn, projects, and pics from you.

I love the color combination in the QED Gryphon hat.
